In most cases that will depend on installation, audio modulation levels and a little bit of luck.

Warning - low power broadcasting is highly addicting. I've been hooked since 1989!

I had to build my first transmitter from a schematic in a library book because there just weren't any affordable ready made units available. That transmitter only got out about 50 feet, but I was smitten :-)

Things are much easier today, with quality companies like Chez Radio offering all in one solutions like the Procaster.

You can also extend your range with the web :-)

I have the earphone jack from an old AM radio plugged into the sound card on an old 500 MHz PC running WinMedia Encoder serving as a global off air monitor.

You can listen to my station on line here:

LPRguy - thanks for the post, have added your link to our site.
I like your live setup using the computer. Low power radios are great for extending streaming Internet audio over the air.

Hi Gerry,

Thank you - and thanks for all you've done for low power radio! For hobbyists like me this hobby is fun, but I couldn't have half as much fun without dedicated pros like you and Chez Radio who do the hard work that makes this hobby so much easier.

Now we can use library book circuits for study and we can get out farther than 50 feet :-)
