Some things I've been digging up in researching this topic seem to indicate that, in just the right circumstances and when presented in just the right way, it just might be possible to set up a low power radio station that generates a little bit of income through advertising revenue.Check my recent blog posts on http://lowpowerradio.blogspot.com about commercializaton for background info and stay tuned, there's much more to come.
I took a moment to post over here at ChezRadio, home of the Procaster, because I've discovered that two of the most important elements of setting up a money-earning station are publicity and promotion.
In my summary of the Oregon Sea Grant reseach, for example, it was shown that small signs promotiong a low power radio station increased listenership a whopping 40%.
The problem is that publicity and promotion will also attract scrutiny and in the radio world that means an FCC field inspection. The only way to guarantee a worry free FCC field inspection is to use an FCC certified transmitter like... the ChezRadio Procaster!
So, while I've much more work to do on the topic of creating a revenue-generating low power radio station, step one is pretty clear - buy an FCC certified transmitter.
Stay tuned...
